Why We Built What Up

We wanted to get a better feel for what was happening in the Christian community in real time. There's hundreds of thousands of churches, ministries, missionaries, pastors and saints doing awesome things for God, but it's difficult for most people to join the conversation.

What Up makes it easier for Christians and the Christian Curious to join the conversation by viewing what's happening near them and around the country in one easy to read stream of updates.

One of the coolest parts of What Up is almost every post is geocoded. Using our USA map we can show who is posting what and where, it's a fun way to spend five minutes.

As you check out the What Up app we encourage you to send us your suggestions to make What Up more fun and interesting. Please keep in mind this app is still in beta and we're continually working to improve performance.

What Up Frequently Asked Questions

Where do you get the info?
Using our special mix of humans, pythons, computers, tubes and other things that make the Internet go. But we ain't no snake handlers!
Who can use this app?
Everyone. We encourage the Christian curious to use the app as a way to plugin to their local Christian community.
Do I need an account to post something?
No! You can post anything anonymously without an account.
What kind of things can I post?
You can post a lot of cool stuff. Twitter updates, Facebook updates, RSS feeds, prayers, events and questions. We're working on letting you post even more stuff.
How do I know if my church's twitter, facebook or RSS feeds are included?
The best way is to post them to What Up once. It'll figure out if it already exists, and if it doesn't you'll be added instantly.
What can't I post?
Anything annoying, dumb or non-Christian related like politics or bluetooth ear boogers.
How does the search engine work?
Fast, easy and similar to Google. You can type any word or phrase in the search box and we'll return posts containing those keywords. To filter by location simply put "loc: city, state" as your search phrase and we'll show you posts nearby.
Is What Up affiliated with a church or denomination?
Nope. We only answer to the big Amigo.
I really like the What Up stream, can I get it on my site?
We're currently developing a widget you can add to your site. Check back in February and we'll have something ready for you.
How are the stats generated?
We have a special algorithm we continually modify to extract the most relevant stats from our stream. The stats change on a 24 hour basis and are roughly compiled from the past few days of information.
